KCEP began as an FM station in 1972, broadcasting 5 for 5 blocks. In the 1980's with community donations it was able to establish a tower on Black Mountain and began broadcasting 10,000 watts.

Since its inception in 1972, KCEP-FM, a non-commercial, community radio station, has been owned and operated by the Economic Opportunity Board of Clark County, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. KCEP-FM serves more than 115,000 listeners each week.
